How to Make Your Lash Business Stand Out

How to Make Your Lash Business Stand Out

Despite the world events around us, there’s (fortunately) no shortage in demand for lash extensions.

Depending on your location though, there might be hundreds of other lash artists in your area.

So with a market so saturated, how do you make your lash business stand out?

Personality over professionalism

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I live by this quote. In my opinion, there’s enough “by-the-rules” lash content in the world.  That’s not to say this content is bad or that there’s not a time and place for it. I just think it’s overdone. From my experience, people gravitate toward authenticity. And what’s more real than naming a tweezer Pink Booty Hole? 😂

Another point to this is personality over perfectionism. I think a lot of people get stunted by wanting their content or brand to be perfect in every way. And unfortunately, what that leads to is just simply not doing anything. There’s a reason the cliche “you are your own worst critic” exists. You are much more likely to notice every little imperfection and obsess over it.

Personality is what makes us unique and not only will having a space to be your true self be better for you in the long run, but it also builds a better relationship between you and your clients/followers. Think about your favorite content creators online? You’re likely not thinking of a corporate brand but rather, someone that you find entertaining or relatable.

Of course, professionalism is needed in many cases but use discretion and don’t be afraid to put your personality into things.

Prioritize client care

Your clients are the reason why you have a business! Without them, there’s no lashing. With that in mind, you should be prioritizing client care. That means building authentic relationships and treating them with the same care you would a friend. Genuinity is key if you couldn’t tell!

There are a lot of different ways you can make your clients feel special. But truthfully, what makes the most impact is what many would consider “unspoken.” As a lash artist, it might seem obvious that a client needs to lay down in the chair, but I’ve seen too many times a client awkwardly stand there while the artist doesn’t explain anything!

These situations may seem small, but they can definitely kill the vibe and make your clients feel uncomfortable. And if they feel uncomfy, you can be sure they won’t come back.

Client care is all about warmth and building rapport, and a simple (often missed) detail of this is teaching. I mean, even when most people think of “teachers,” the most common descriptions are warm, kind, easy-to-talk-to, etc. People feel comfortable around teachers! And there’s a reason for it, they typically are excellent communicators.

Teaching your clients shows that you are the expert, that you are there to help them, and you’re not just there to take their money. Plus, walking them through the process will dissolve any awkward scenarios like the one I mentioned above.

Go the extra mile

Another way client care can manifest is by going the extra mile. Maybe you give them a small aftercare package that includes an instruction card and a couple of mascara spoolies so they can fluff their lashes. Another idea is to offer water, snacks, and blankets at your studio so they are comfortable throughout their appointment.

Don’t be afraid to ask your client what their preferences are. Do they have a special type of music they want to listen to during their appointment? Would they prefer to talk or not? Small accommodations like this really stand out in the world of customer service.

Never stop learning

As someone who has been lashing for 13 years, let me tell you – the lash world is always changing. We used to think you should avoid water at all costs. Now we know that proper cleanings actually make the lashes last longer!

As you advance your lash career, you should be taking additional training.

Side note: We just launched our Classic Lash Training and we plan on creating more courses in the near future! You can follow us on Facebook or Instagram to be the first to know when we announce them. Our classes cover everything from product knowledge to safety and sanitization, how to run a lash business, and more, so be on the lookout!

No matter how experienced you are, I recommend taking at least one class a year. I’ve personally left every training feeling like I’ve learned something new and valuable. They're also a great way to brush up on your skills and meet other artists in your area!

Find your style

Some artists may choose to cater to specific styles or groups. For instance, some lash artists specialize in applying lashes on mature clients. Others may choose to focus on the latest lash trends. Whatever it is you choose to do, make sure you master it.

At the end of the day, your client wants to see great results. So make sure you’re working towards giving them the best results you possibly can.
